Leather

The leather I use to create my products is all ethically-sourced from tanneries in the United States and in the Tuscany region in Italy. Each hide is 100% full grain leather, meaning that it has in no way been tampered with or altered after leaving the tannery. The use of full grain leather ensures that my products can be utilized for a lifetime with proper care. On the contrary, “Genuine Leather” products are those that have been sanded or chemically-filled to hide imperfections, and are the results of leather shavings being glued and molded together.
In addition to being full grain, the leather I purchase is vegetable-tanned. This means that no toxins or chemicals are used in the tanning process - the leather gets its color from organic tannins from trees and leaves during a process that takes 30-60 days. This leather is known to patina with time and exposure to light and moisture.

Thread

The thread that I use to stitch my products is called Vinymo MBT. This is a non-lubricated, tightly-twisted polyester thread that is internally bonded. I use a smaller-thickness form of thread for watch straps, while utilizing a thicker strand for items such as wallets. Each of my products is hand-stitched utilizing the saddle stitching technique for long-term durability.

Leather Care

It is important to care for your full grain leather products in order to ensure that they are able to serve you for a lifetime. My recommendation for leather care is to utilize Smith's Leather Balm, a balm made from 100% safe, organic ingredients that can be massaged lightly into the leather to keep it hydrated. Tins of Smith's leather balm are now available in my shop!
